Great Race of Mercy

Siberian Huskies are famous for their role in the "Serum Run", also known as the "Great Race of Mercy", bringing lifesaving diphtheria antitoxin to Nome, Alaska in 1925. Balto, the lead dog on the last leg of this journey, was honoured by a statue in New York City's Central Park.
